Stoke City needed a goal from Richard Cresswell to give them to a 1-0 win over Shrewsbury at the New Meadow.
The Potters have tasted defeat just once in pre-season so far - to Nuremburg - and made it three wins on the bounce after edging past The Shrews.
Tony Pulis' side could not find a way past their lowly opponents in the first period leaving some of the visiting faithful scratching their heads.
However, they breathed a sigh of relief when 30-year-old Cresswell squeezed the ball past Town goalkeeper Luke Daniels courtesy of the post with 68 minutes gone.
Stoke's record signing Dave Kitson enjoyed an eventful match, going close with barely a minute on the board and missing a gilt-edged chance in the closing stages of the first half.
