Eustace confident of new deal

John Eustace has revealed that he is close to signing a new contract at Stoke.

John Eustace is confident of signing a new deal at Stoke City despite speculation linking him with a move away from the Britannia Stadium.

Eustace joined The Potters in July 2003 but his four years at the club have been plagued with injuries.

Talking to the Sentinel, Eustace said: "I want to stay, otherwise I wouldn't have waited all this time.

"I haven't spoken to anyone else about contracts. There has been interest, but I want to play for Stoke."

The Potters have gone through the unusual process of allowing Eustace to put forward his own contractual demands.

The midfielder explained: "We have put an offer to the club and negotiations are ongoing. I don't think we are too far apart."

After a substantial period without playing football Eustace is now working hard to reach peak condition for next season's campaign.

Eustace said: "I have now had 12 months of injury-free football and am looking forward to pre-season and taking it on from there."
