Scunthorpe have signed out-of-contract striker Martin Paterson from Stoke.

The 20-year-old has agreed a two-year deal at Glanford Park, and will hope to help fill the void created by the expected departure of star striker Billy Sharp.

However, although Paterson's contract with Stoke had expired, the club are entitled to a fee due to his age, and no agreement has yet been made for the player.

Should the parties be unable to agree a fee, the amount will be settled by tribunal.

Paterson, who has an impressive record at reserve level, made his senior debut for Stoke in 2005, and has since made 16 first-team appearances, including two starts.

The player becomes the fourth signing for boss Nigel Adkins (pictured) as he gears up for life in the Championship, following the arrivals of Kevan Hurst, Paul Hayes and Izzy Iriekpen.
