Stoke City defender Clint Hill has signed a two-year contract extension at The Britannia Stadium.

The former Tranmere Rovers and Oldham Athletic player's previous deal was set to expire at the season's end, but Hill will now stay with Championship outfit until the summer of 2008.

The news is positive for the 27-year-old, who has endured a difficult season after undergoing knee surgery in the summer, but Hill hopes to be back around Christmas.

"I'm really pleased to have signed, to offer me a two-year extension shows the club have got faith in me," Hill told the club's official website.

"It's brilliant news and hopefully I can repay that faith when I get back out on the pitch.

"I'm looking at around Christmas time, or possibly the middle of January if everything goes well, and hopefully I can get back into the first-team fold."
