Bristol City have snapped up former Burnley midfielder Tony Grant on non-contract terms.

The 30-year-old arrives at Ashton Gate as cover for summer signing Alex Russell, who is sidelined for up to a month with a knee injury.

The former Everton and Manchester City player has been looking for a new club after being one of eight players to depart Turf Moor at the end of last season.

Grant has had trials with City's League One rivals Oldham Athletic and Championship side Derby County this summer before ending a similar run-out this week with Stoke City.

The midfielder has arrived in time to be available for City's home clash with Port Vale on Saturday.

"Tony is very similar to Alex," Robins boss Brian Tinnion told the club's official website.

"He's an experienced professional who enjoys getting the ball down and passing it."
