Stoke City have been dealt a blow with the news that Clint Hill could be out for some time with a knee injury.

The talented defender is a key figure at The Britannia Stadium and has been a virtual ever present for the Potteries club this term.

Hill picked up the injury in the recent win over Plymouth and tests have revealed the defender has suffered damage to his cruciate ligament.

"I've been to see a specialist and I've torn a capsule in the back of my knee," he told the club's website. "It will heal in three to four weeks, but the main thing is I've damaged my cruciate ligament."

The defender faces an anxious wait to see if he will have to go under the surgeon's knife.

"It is a real concern at the moment," he added. "It may heal in the next few weeks, but I may need surgery which could mean I am out for quite a while."
