STOKE CITY have swooped to sign Oldham Athletic defender Clint Hill for an undisclosed fee.

The financially strapped Latics have now lost their second central defender in 24 hours, after losing Fitz Hall to Southampton earlier on Monday.

Hill has agreed a three-year deal at The Britannia Stadium and will join his new team-mates for training on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old is Stoke's second summer signing, after the arrival of Gifton Noel Williams from Watford last month.

Hill has been signed to replace Sergei Shtaniuk (pictured), who has been allowed to leave the club and move to Russia with Shinnik Yaroslavl.

"Clint is a player we have been interested in for some time," said Stoke's director of football John Rudge.

"He was very highly-rated at Tranmere and tipped for a career in the Premiership.

"Although he is still young he has the experience of plenty of league games behind him.

"We were looking for his type of player after releasing Sergei Shtaniuk to return to Russia and in Clint we think we have an ideal replacement."
