STOKE CITY striker Chris Iwelumo has agreed a new two-year deal with the Division Two promotion hopefuls.

The new contract will see the 23-year-old stay at The Britannia Stadium until the summer of 2004.

The former Aarhus player scored his 11th goal of the season in last Friday's top of the table clash with Brighton and Potters director of football John Rudge was delighted to have secured his future.

"We are delighted to have reached an agreement because Chris has made huge progress this season and we want to keep him," Rudge told the club's official website.

"He has emerged as our top goalscorer and is a very valuable member of Gudjon Thordarson's squad.

"I think it's fair to say his emergence this season has been a very big bonus for us and that's reflected in the new contract.

"Chris is still only 23, so there is still plenty of time for him to become an even better player. He has always shown a willingness to work very hard at his game in training."
