YORK CITY have persuaded Stoke City to allow striker Chris Iwelumo to extend his loan stay until the middle of February.

Minstermen boss Terry Dolan tried to keep the tall forward until the end of the season, only for this to be rejected by Stoke, but he has persuaded the Potteries club to allow the 20-year-old to stay for a third month.

Iwelumo initially moved in a bid to regain fitness and form, but he has proved a big hit at Bootham Crescent, scoring twice in his last three games, including one in the superb FA Cup replay victory at Reading.

Dolan appeared delighted to have secured Iwelumo for another month, saying: "He is getting used to everybody else now and I am pleased with the way he is improving.

"I was hoping we would be able to keep him for the rest of the season, but Stoke don't want to commit themselves, although they have no objections to him staying a third month."
