Former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins believes his old club will cope in the Premier League next season despite a number of high-profile departures.

New coach Ronald Koeman has seen England full-back Luke Shaw join Manchester United while Liverpool have snapped up Adan Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren.

Morgan Schneiderlin remains a £20m target for Tottenham, who are also thought to be keen on injured striker Jay Rodriguez, despite Saints insisting there will be no further departures from the club.

But speaking to Sky Sports News, Adkins, who led the club to the Premier League following successive promotions, said: "The club will sort itself out and like with everything there is always going to be a transition of players.

"There’s going to be a turnaround but the supporters are going to get behind the team as they always do because they are magnificent down there.

“The club is bigger than anything that goes on and the supporters are always the heart of that club.”
