Adam Lallana feels Southampton put in their best performance of the season against Newcastle, and is looking for more of the same.

The Saints clambered out of the Premier League drop zone on Sunday, with a 2-0 victory at St Mary's seeing them collect back-to-back wins for the first time.

Nigel Adkins' men could have won by many more, but Lallana is looking to take only a second clean sheet of the campaign and the momentum Southampton are building into forthcoming fixtures.

Asked if the showing against Newcastle was the Saints' best so far, Lallana told Sky Sports: "I would have thought so. We have had a few good performances and we believe we are not where we should be.

"We have led in a lot of games and not been able to see it out, so to get a clean sheet is a massive positive as well and we're going to take it into the game on Wednesday night (against Norwich).

"We hit the woodwork three times so it could have been more. We are starting to gel and the clean sheet is a massive boost as well. If you keep clean sheets you are going to get points, and that's what we're striving for.

"We've achieved nothing yet. We have got a tough game on Wednesday, where we want to make it three wins on the bounce.

"It was the start of the big week and we were just looking to build momentum and make this (St Mary's) a fortress as well."
