Kelvin Davis is to stick around at Southampton and battle for a starting berth despite the club making no secret of their desire to bring in a new keeper.
The 35-year-old shot-stopper has spent the last six years on the South Coast, during which time he has been among the Saints' most consistent performers.
He has played a leading role in the club's rapid rise from League One to the Premier League, with back-to-back promotions firing Nigel Adkins' side back into the big time.
Davis has been named in the PFA team of the season for three years in a row - twice in the third tier and once in the Championship.
He could, however, be about to slip down the pecking order at St Mary's, with reports suggesting that Birmingham City's Jack Butland is among those Southampton have set their sights on.
Not that Davis will be looking to up sticks if he is faced with added competition for places.
He said: "I'd like to think if there is something I see or a bit of advice I can give (to a rival), I would let them know if I thought they'd accept it.
Spirit
"I am not too long in the tooth to accept a bit of criticism or help. I'm all for that.
"I think you'll find with most goalkeepers, and I say most, the case is there is a good team spirit and I am all for that goalkeepers' union.
"I am a big believer that you train as well as you can and you reach the standard that is your best possible.
"If that is not good enough to get you in the team, then so be it and good luck to the other guy. I've always been the same.
"As a goalkeeper there is one position, one shirt, and if I'm good enough then that's football.
"I'll support the club and will continue to do so while I'm here."
