Lambert is the fourth person to wear Le Tissier's shirt number since the fans' favourite retired.
The striker has made a solid start to his first campaign in the Championship, scoring four times in all competitions.
Le Tissier told the Daily Echo: "There's been a few people that have had the number seven shirt since I left and you kind of go there and think 'Hmmm, blimey'.
"But it's brilliant to see somebody now who can excite the fans.
"I get excited when we get a free-kick 25 or 30 yards out, because he strikes a great ball with that right peg of his, so it's nice to see it."
