Defender Danny Butterfield can look forward to a second season with Southampton after triggering a contract extension.

The former Crystal Palace full-back signed a one-year deal last summer and played a big enough part in Saints' promotion campaign to earn another 12 months and a crack at the Championship next term. "My contract has now flowed into next season because of the amount of games I played and I'm certainly happy to be on board at a club that is going in the right direction," he told Saints' official website. "I think I've played a reasonable amount of games and I think I've played reasonably well all season. "For us to get promoted is a massive thing for the club and for me to be a part of it, I'm really happy with that."
