Southampton full-back Graeme Murty could be out of action for six weeks after picking up an ankle injury.
The 35-year-old has only recently returned to full fitness after suffering knee ligament damage back in August, having joined the club following his departure from Reading.
Murty has played the last five matches as Saints have continued their rise up the League One table, but is now set to miss the festive schedule.
Midfielder Lloyd James is likely to revert to full-back once again, although centre-half Wayne Thomas could also deputise.
