Full-back looking forward to new challenge

Southampton have signed Graeme Murty on a one-year contract after the veteran full-back impressed during a pre-season trial. Murty has been training with Saints in recent weeks and has featured in three friendlies after being released by Reading at the end of last season. The 34-year-old recently told Sky Sports that he was hoping to earn a contract at St Mary's after not being surprised by Reading's decision to let him go. Having now signed a deal with the League One club, Murty is determined to play his part in helping Alan Pardew's side earn an immediate return to the Championship. "I'm delighted to have tied up a move to Southampton and cannot wait to get started," Murty told the club's official website. "It is a challenge that lies ahead of us this season, but the right infrastructure is in place for the club to regain its Championship status and then move forward from there. "I've worked with the manager before and have a great respect for him. "I know what he's about and I know exactly what he'll expect from me in the forthcoming campaign."
