Sky Blues target duo

Coventry have confirmed their interest in Leon Best and Gary Borrowdale.

Iain Dowie completed the signings of Arjan De Zeeuw and Ellery Cairo on Saturday but is hoping to bolster his squad further over the coming weeks.

The Sky Blues have talked to both Southampton striker Best and Crystal Palace left-back Borrowdale but may have to wait to bring them in.

As both players are under the age of 23, Coventry will have to pay a compensation fee or go to a tribunal to sort out the transfers.

However, Coventry managing director Paul Fletcher admits the money is not available just yet.

"We have spoken to both players but nothing is done as yet," Fletcher told the Coventry Telegraph.

"We are delighted to be able to support Iain Dowie in signing Arjan De Zeeuw and Ellery Cairo and we will be sitting down with him this week to look at the situation and any other ways in which we can help.

"We understand his frustration that he has not got more money to spend at this moment in time and that he may have to take the free transfer and loan route for the time being.

"But the manager is back from Dubai and back in action and ready to go again."
