Southampton midfielder David Prutton is ready to hand his manager George Burley a boost after coming through a reserve team game unscathed.
Prutton has been sidelined for almost a year with ankle problems but could now make Southampton's squad for Saturday's game against Norwich.
Also building up his fitness in the 3-0 second string victory over Brighton was playmaker Inigo Idiakez, but the Spaniard is still some way short of making a first team return.
"It was useful to give a few players a game, especially in midfield," said reserve boss Stewart Henderson.
"Inigo got a half which was always the plan and with no reserve league game for a month it was a good chance for a few to get some match practise."
