Southampton have been dealt a blow with the news that key midfielder David Prutton could be sidelined for three months.
The schemer has been informed he needs to undergo surgery on his ankle, with the procedure set to keep him on the sidelines until December.
"David is going to have an operation next week that could put him out for three months," Saints boss George Burley told the club's official website.
"It is the same problem that David had last season, and maybe it should have been operated on then.
"It is obviously a big blow for the player, and a big blow for everybody if he is out for that long."
