Southampton boss George Burley admits he is close to tieing up a deal for Czech trialist Mario Licka.
The 24-year-old has been at St Mary's over the summer in an attempt to win a permanent stay on the South Coast and it would appear his exertions have now bore fruit.
Lika spent time at West Ham last summer but failed to impress Alan Pardew sufficiently to earn a contract, although it would appear Burley has not come to the same conclusion about the player's potential.
Having been released by FC Slovacko, Lika played in pre-season friendlies against Cheltenham, Bristol City and Panathinaikos, doing enough to tempt Burley in to making him an offer.
''We are talking to him about a permanent deal,'' said Burley.
''He's a young player who is available on a free and we are hoping to tie things up over the next couple of days.''
