Brighton manager Mark McGhee is confident of making a breakthrough in the transfer market.

McGhee is looking at a number of alternatives but his main target seems to be a front-man with Southampton's Dexter Blackstock strongly linked.

"One striker I was interested in, we were quoted £1 million, and that's a long way off from what we have to spend," McGhee told Sky Sports News.

"Another we were told isn't available, we aren't sure if that is the case, we may have to tempt them out with the most if not all of our money but we are trying and we are serious about getting improvement to our squad."

Despite having some money to spend McGhee is still reliant on his own squad.

"It is very important when it comes to keeping Adam Virgo, Adam Hinshelwood, Adam El-Abd and Dean Hammond, boys that were playing well at the end of the season and want encouragement," he said.

"This money is one of the things that will help us encourage our young players, we are going forward buying and looking to improve the squad and give us a fighting chance."
