PSV Eindhoven defender Michael Lamey's proposed move to Southampton has fallen through.

The defender headed to the South Coast last week for a trial and made a positive impression on Saints manager Harry Redknapp.

Redknapp proposed a loan move with an option to buy at the end of the season, but this was not acceptable to PSV who were only interested in an immediate sale.

The 25-year-old does not figure in PSV coach Guus Hiddink's plans but will have to kick his heels in Eindhoven until the summer.

Redknapp did not let PSV's failure to do business affect him on deadline day, as he brought in Olivier Bernard and Henri Camara to boost his options.
