Kenny Jackett declared Wolves are ready to chase down their promotion rivals after beating Sheffield Wednesday 3-0.

Bakary Sako's penalty and goals from Benik Afobe and James Henry saw them cruise past Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 to remain three points behind the top six.

Wins for Ipswich and Brentford meant Wolves failed to make up ground on the duo in the race for sixth in the Sky Bet Championship.

But they are just five points behind fifth-placed Derby, who they host on Friday, and Jackett has already turned his attention to the Rams.

"It's a crucial one. We need a great run and if we can find our form then we have an opportunity, it sets up Friday as a great game," said Jackett, with Wolves eighth.

"We'll look forward to it and it's an opportunity for us against one of the sides above us to pull them back a bit more.

"The gap is five points and it's the sort of night you're in the game for and we're looking quickly towards Friday."

Claude Dielna's challenge on Nouha Dicko earned Wolves a penalty for their first goal, although Dicko looked to have gone down easily and Jackett admitted he could not say for certain it was a spot kick.

He said: "Nouha has gone past one, he has gone past the other and you can see with his pace and low centre of gravity there's a coming together.

"It's a difficult one for the referee and a difficult one for me to say it's definitely a penalty.

"What I would say is, with the position he was going in to, he would rather score because he's not on the penalties."

Wednesday only offered brief threats, with Tomasz Kuszczak saving from Jacques Maghoma but boss Stuart Gray was unhappy with the award of Wolves' penalty.

He said: "I'm disappointed the penalty was given because it was a good tackle. I've seen it back, we've lost possession, Wolves have broken and the boy Dielna has put a fair tackle in. I don't think he (Dicko) has dived but his momentum took him over his leg.

"What has helped is 5,000 Wolves fans appealing for the penalty, I'm disappointed but I can't blame the referee for the next two goals."
