MLS side Colorado Rapids say they have turned down the chance to sign ex-Manchester United striker Diego Forlan – but could yet pursue Wolves forward Kevin Doyle.

Forlan, who spent two years at Old Trafford before moving onto Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, is currently on the books at Cerezo Osaka, but his deal with the Japanese club expires this summer.

Paul Bravo, vice president of soccer operations and technical director of MLS side Colorado Rapids, revealed he held discussions over signing the 35-year-old Uruguay international, only to eventually turn him down.

Bravo told the Denver Post: “He was a guy that was offered up to us. I wouldn’t go beyond that. Everybody gets these players thrown out.

"Diego Forlan – did we have a conversation about him? Yes, we did. But it’s probably the same conversation 10 other clubs in this league have had in that same time frame.”

Bravo was coy on the prospect of an imminent deal for Wolves forward Kevin Doyle but did confirm that he is looking to recruit an experienced striker.

He added: “Doyle’s contracted with another club, so we can’t technically comment on players that are contracted with other clubs. I can say that we are actively searching for a striker with experience.”

Doyle returned to Wolves after a loan spell with Crystal Palace and is out of contract at Molineux in the summer.

Boss Kenny Jackett confirmed after Wolves' 4-1 defeat of Huddersfield last week that the former Reading forward had held initial talks with the Rapids about a possible Stateside move.
