Sky Sports understands Iceland midfielder Eggert Jonsson has left Wolves after his contract was cancelled.

Jonsson joined Wolves in January 2012 on a three-and-a-half year contract from Hearts and was signed by former manager Mick McCarthy.

He cost an undisclosed fee, but the 24-year-old has been unable to make an impression at Molineux after making just seven first-team appearances.

His last outing for Wolves came in the Capital One Cup against Northampton Town in August last year and he took in a brief spell at Charlton Athletic last term.

It is now understood that Jonsson has come to an agreement to cancel the final two years of his deal, so that he can look for a new club.
