Eire full-back aiming to return to peak match fitness swiftly

Wolves' defender Kevin Foley has announced his joy at finally being able to play pain free after being afflicted by an ankle injury. The 27-year-old full-back replaced injured captain Roger Johnson against Birmingham in their goalless FA Cup tie at the weekend and played almost an hour. It was Foley's third appearance in a row having fully recovered from ankle surgery in October and he was delighted to play his part in the local derby. "It's been so long and I am glad to have got back now and got off the bench a few times," he told the Express and Star.

Frustrating

"The start of the season was so frustrating for me, playing on what was half an ankle, basically. "It's just good to be back out there not feeling like I'm carrying anything, which is different to how it was at the start of the season. "I am playing without pain again and just managing things like the scar tissue, which the physios are working to get down. "That's just natural and will take time to get away but, hopefully, it won't be long before I'm back in my full stride." The Republic of Ireland international is thrilled with the way he has recovered from his injury but he acknowledges it will take some time before he is fully match fit. He added: "I thoroughly enjoyed a decent amount of time and playing at right-back. "Training is a lot different to games and Birmingham have some good wide players, so it was just a case of getting used to the pace of everything again. I was glad to get an hour under my belt."
