Defender hopes training can bring an end to lapses at the back

Wolves defender Richard Stearman hopes hard work on the training ground can continue to give the club the Midlands bragging rights. Mick McCarthy's team took four points from West Brom and Birmingham last season and also gained three points from Aston Villa, while at the same time they suffered just one loss. Wolves travel to West Brom on Sunday, when they will aim to avoid a fifth successive Premier League defeat after a run which has undone the hard work of their unbeaten start. McCarthy has seen his team concede nine goals in their last four league matches and Stearman hopes to get back to winning ways against fellow strugglers and neighbours West Brom. "We're very confident we can repeat what we did last year and pick up points from the teams from the Midlands," he told the Birmingham Mail.

Fiery

"We want to do that again. They're great occasions - not just for us but also for the fans. They want to see a fiery encounter with a bit of football played as well and with us coming out with the right result. "We were unlucky at Albion last year, holding out until the death when they popped up with a goal." McCarthy has had his team working on their defending during the international break and Stearman thinks the training should pay off. "Any sort of goal that is going in is going to be detrimental to us. We seem to be conceding a few sloppy ones and that is putting pressure on us at the other end," he said. "That's what we are working towards cutting out. We have done a lot of defensive work these past couple of weeks and hopefully we are going to get that right now."
