Wolves stopper eyes first-team place

Steve Mouyokolo insists he is ready to battle for a spot in the Wolves line-up following a frustrating start to the season. The defender, who arrived at Molineux from Hull City in the summer, has seen his start to life with Wolves hindered by niggling injuries. However, Mouyokolo made his first Premier League appearance for Mick McCarthy's side in the closing stages of Saturday's win over Manchester City, and that run-out has given the 23-year-old a taste for action.

Worst start

"It has been the worst start possible for me having moved to a new club," Mouyokolo told Wolves' official website. "It was tough to pick up niggling injuries at the start of the season. "Now I've come to the light at the end of the tunnel and it's happy days. "Fortunately I'm fit again now and there are a lot of games left to try and get into the team. "The more games I will play and the more time I get on the pitch the better I will be." He added: "The competition for places we're going to have in defence is good for the team and for the players to help us all to improve. "I will give my best and everything I've got whenever I play to try and win a place." Mouyokolo's only other outings this term have come in the form of Carling Cup starts against League One side Notts County and Manchester United. The latter ended in a tight defeat at Old Trafford and the French-born stopper was disappointed to see Wolves exit the competition.
Step-up
"I enjoyed the Manchester United game," he said. "It was my second start but always going to be a step-up against a Premier League team after playing against Notts County before. "It was exciting to be out there at Old Trafford and show people what I can do when I'm 100 per cent fit. "It was frustrating I didn't end up on the winning side but that's football - you just have to get on with it."
