Goalkeeper unable to recover fully from knee injury

Wolves goalkeeper Matt Murray has been forced to retire from football after failing to recover from a ruptured patella tendon. Murray has endured a torrid time with injuries over the past few years and had not made a first-team appearance for Wolves since May 2007. He went on loan to Hereford United in November 2008 and it was during his time at Edgar Street that the 29-year-old initially suffered the knee injury. The former England Under 21 international attempted a comeback late last year, but encountered a setback when playing for Wolves' reserves. The keeper has now opted to call time on his professional career after deciding he will not be able to return to the required level. During his time with Wolves, Murray made 100 appearances for the club, the last of which came in a 4-1 win at Leicester at the end of the 2006/07 season. Wolves have wished Murray all the best for the future and have not ruled out a return to Molineux in some capacity.
