Wolves boss unhappy after Palace defeat
Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has admitted he was in shock after his side's defeat to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup.
The Molineux outfit were dumped out of the fourth round after a humbling 3-1 defeat at Selhurst Park to administration-hit Palace, who go on to play Aston Villa in the next stage of the competition.
Wolves looked to have turned the corner with two respectable draws in the Premier League against Liverpool and Hull, but were not at the races on Tuesday night.
The relegation-threatened club take on Birmingham on Sunday, and McCarthy is expecting a better showing after an unexpected performance.
"I didn't see that coming after the last two games," he said.
"We'll analyse it, have a look at it and see what we can do with the Birmingham game in mind.
"I had my pound of flesh in the dressing room and I'll have another pound when we get back in training on Thursday, and we'll sort it out between us."
Danny Butterfield scored a remarkable quickfire hat-trick for Palace, having only scored one previous goal in the past six years.
The experienced right-back was delighted with his impact on the game, although admitted he was as surprised as anyone.
"I'm normally a one goal every four seasons man, so three in one night is unbelievable," he said.
"I think I was a day too late, I could have perhaps gone for £4million or £5million on Monday (transfer deadline day)."
