Iwelumo and McAllister given chance to shine

Chris Iwelumo and Jamie McAllister are delighted to have received call-ups to the Scotland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifier. Wolves striker Iwelumo has been included in the international set-up for the first time at the age of 30, while McAllister is handed a second chance after four years in the wilderness. Iwelumo admits he feared his opportunity may have passed him by, but has now set his sights on securing a regular spot in George Burley's plans.

Exprience

"I was having a look at the last squad and there were probably four players over 30 in there," Iwelumo told Wolves' official website. "It's good to have that experience but this is a first for me. "There are some great players in the squad and hopefully I'll be able to show what I'm about. "It has been a long time coming but I'm just delighted it's happened. "It's every player's dream to represent their country, or at least be involved, and hopefully I'll get a chance. "It's just a case of getting there and trying to impress, and if I can, maybe I can stay in there."
Striving
Meanwhile, McAllister earned his solitary cap to date during a friendly contest with Trinidad & Tobago in 2004. However, the Bristol City full-back has forced his way back into the fold and is hoping to make a positive impression. "I'm delighted. I got a nice little phone call yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon, and it's great news," he told City's official website. "It's something I've been striving for, to get back into the squad. And now it's happened, it's up to me to take my chance. "I never stopped believing I could get back into the team. It's one step in the door and hopefully now I can do really well and establish myself. "I knew they had been keeping tabs on me, but it's just nice that I'm now back in the squad." Scotland face Norway at Hampden Park on 11th October looking to build on the three points they took from their opening two fixtures in September.
