George Burley has explained he handed Chris Iwelumo his first call-up to the Scotland side due to his excellent form for Wolverhampton Wanderers this season.
On Thursday, it was announced 30-year-old striker Iwelumo had been named in the squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifier against Norway.
Iwelumo has struck an impressive eight goals in seven games so far this term, and Scotland boss Burley has declared that the door is always open to in-form players.
He said: "You are looking for players in form, players who are playing regularly. Chris comes into that category, he has scored eight goals.
"I saw a lot of him when he played for Colchester. This season, under Mick McCarthy, he has added being a target player and added goals. The door is always open."
Burley also recalled Bristol City defender Jamie McAllister, but striker Garry O'Connor missed out.
Of the decisions, he added: "Garry has not played much. He was injured in the last squad and hasn't got back into the Birmingham team.
"He [McAllister] is a tremendous professional who was desperate to get into the squad and Callum (Davidson) was not 100 per cent fit."
