Stags eye Wolves ace

Mansfield are waiting to see if they can sign Wolves midfielder Sammy Clingan.

Mansfield are waiting to see if they can sign Wolves midfielder Sammy Clingan.

Caretaker boss Carlton Palmer has contacted Glenn Hoddle about the availability of the 21-year-old.

Clingan has just spent three months on loan at Chesterfield and Hoddle is having a look at him before deciding if he can leave Molineux.

Palmer says that he is hopeful but knows that other clubs are interested in signing Clingan.

"I'm waiting on Glenn Hoddle who has got him back from Chesterfield and is having a good look at him but he's said he'll keep me informed," said Palmer.

"That's the type of midfield player I'm interested in but there've been about six other clubs after him both in our division and from the one above."

Palmer is also due to start talks with Field Mill chairman Keith Haslam about the possibility of taking the job on permanently.
