Wolves full back Rob Edwards will be out of action for three months due to an ankle ligament injury.

Edwards has been struggling with the problem for the past week after being kicked on his ankle against League Two side Rochdale in the Carling Cup.

The 21-year-old was forced to withdraw from the Wales squad for this weekend's World Cup qualifier against Azerbaijan with the injury.

He has returned to Wolves and learned he will require surgery on the joint - which is likely to sideline him for three months.

The injury, while new, has afflicted the same ankle he dislocated during his time at previous club Aston Villa.

Edwards moved to Molineux from Villa in July and Wolves boss Dave Jones lamented the right back's misfortune.

"It's really unfortunate for the lad - he could just have easily got a kick on the other ankle but this just shows the luck we are having at the moment," said Jones.

"It's come at a time that he was just settling in at the club, but all we can do is get on with the operation and get him back as soon as we can."
