Transfer news: Georgios Samaras set to leave West Bromwich Albion

Georgios Samaras is leaving West Bromwich Albion to join Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal.

Sky sources understand the paperwork is being finalised on a permanent transfer for a fee of around £1million with Samaras being paid over £2m over 30 months.

The Greece striker joined Albion in the summer on a two-year deal after leaving Celtic on a free transfer, but has made just eight substitute appearances without scoring a goal.

Samaras is the latest player to be trimmed from Albion's squad during Tony Pulis' January overhaul.

Fellow summer signing Silvestre Varela, who was on loan from Porto, has joined Parma and Sebastian Blanco is on the verge of moving to San Lorenzo in Argentina.

£10million record signing Brown Ideye and defender Jason Davidson and are also rumoured to be on the way out.

Pulis, who replaced Alan Irvine last month, is chasing Wigan's Callum McManaman and is also reported to be interested in Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher.
