Zoltan Gera has revealed that he rejected offers from clubs in the Championship so that he could return to Hungary with Ferencvaros.
The 35-year-old midfielder brought a decade in English football to an end earlier this week when he joined Ferencvaros, having left West Bromwich Albion earlier in the summer following the end of his contract.
He says he had a number of options and could have dropped down to the second tier in England, but ultimately decided to head home for family reasons.
"During the last year I was considering if it was a good idea to go to Hungary," Gera told Ferencvaros' official wesbite.
"Although I had offers from other countries - especially from the Championship - I thought the best decision is to go home, and we agreed about it with my family."
Gera had two spells at West Brom during his time in England, either side of a stint with Fulham, and he is grateful to both clubs for everything they did for him.
He said: "This ten years seem to be so short it is as if I went to England yesterday.
"I felt great, this was an amazing part of my life because I hadn't even dreamt of playing in the Premier League.
"I had a successful period at West Brom and then I had a special success with Fulham (Europa League final in 2010).
"I hope my following years will be successful. My comeback to West Brom started as a dream and I felt good at both clubs.
"I had a good relationship with the fans and with the club officials. But now I'd like to win the Hungarian Championship with Ferencvaros and I hope my following years will be successful."
