New West Brom manager Pepe Mel has said he wants to bring in a striker before the end of the transfer window.

The Spaniard said they will need to bring in cover for Nicolas Anelka, who was injured during Wednesday's 4-3 loss against local rivals Aston Villa.

Mel was also mindful that they do not know the outcome of the FA misconduct charge against Anelka, which could potentially keep him out for a number of games.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Mel said: "One result doesn't change the opinion about the squad but if we have the chance to sign a player during the transfer window I believe we should do.

"We must try to work to solve the problem that the injury or the ban to Anelka would cause.

"He [Anelka] has had a lot of stitches to his knee. We don't know (how serious it is). Tomorrow we will know more."
