Neil Warnock: Hoping to keep loan stars at Elland Road
Leeds United boss Neil Warnock claims discussions regarding extended deals for the club's loan stars have been opened.
Alan Tate, Jerome Thomas and Michael Tonge have impressed since arriving at Elland Road on short-term deals and Warnock is hoping the services of all three can be retained for the remainder of the season.
Tonge's three-month agreement with Stoke City is due to expire later this week, while Tate and Thomas are due back at Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion respectively on 3rd January.
Warnock is looking to land Tonge and Tate on permanent transfers, while an extension to Thomas' loan is considered to be a top priority.
The Whites boss claims he will also be looking to bolster his firepower in the New Year, with it hoped that the club's new owners will make funds available for additions.
"We've been in touch with the clubs of all the loan players," Warnock said in the Yorkshire Evening Post.
"You have to start conversations. With Michael Tonge we've made initial enquiries and we've done the same with Jerome. We've spoken to Swansea about Tate too.
"I've also given the club one or two names regarding another striker. We need to put pressure on Luciano Becchio in case he has a period where he's not himself, and we need a top-class striker to take us into the second half of the season in a positive way."
While working on possible deals for the January window, Warnock has already completed one piece of important business - with El Hadji Diouf having committed his future to Leeds for the next 18 months.
"I'm pleased to put it to bed," Warnock added.
"He had other opportunities and he wasn't telling porkies about that, but it's great that he's thrown his lot in with us. That's one signing ticked off and now we concentrate on the next one."
