West Brom boss Roy Hodgson admitted his side rode their luck in their shock 1-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.
Peter Odemwingie's late strike gave the Baggies their first victory at Anfield in 45 years as the Reds' home woes continued.
Liverpool missed a host of chances in the game, while West Brom defended stoutly to frustrate the home side and earn a famous win.
Hodgson was delighted with his side's efforts as they battled to all three points to move into the top half of the table and just one point behind the Merseysiders.
"The greatest satisfaction I have today is the effort the team put in," said Hodgson. "We had to ride our luck sometimes and it was a massive rearguard action.
"To be fair they piled on the pressure in the second half and it was a tough rearguard action and the players perhaps deserved a bit of luck.
"It was a hardworking, really gritty performance and I have got to be proud of the team.
"It was a great day today as it is unusual for West Brom to beat Liverpool home or away, so it is a special occasion.
"I am not making any bones about it, it was a lucky win.
"Liverpool were clearly the better team and created the better chances and were very unlucky to lose the game, but if I lament Liverpool's misfortunate I am happy with our good fortune and happy with the way the team fought to the bitter end for the victory."
Reception
Hodgson also praised the Liverpool fans for giving him a warm reception on his first return to Anfield since being sacked last January.
"I get great satisfaction from the support both sets of fans gave me," added Hodgson. "I was a bit concerned about the reception before the game, but they treated me so well and I didn't repay them too well by coming away with the victory.
"I am very pleased they gave me a good reception."
