On-loan Pompey midfielder ruled out for rest of season

Portsmouth have suffered a huge blow to their survival hopes after midfielder George Thorne was ruled out for the remainder of the season. The 19-year-old, who is on loan from West Brom, left Fratton Park on crutches last Saturday after suffering an ankle injury during the 5-1 defeat by Burnley. And boss Michael Appleton has confirmed Thorne will not be available for the final six matches of the Championship campaign as Pompey battle to avoid relegation. "There's no chance of him playing again this season," Appleton told the Portsmouth News. "It's a blow. He's been outstanding." Pompey currently sit second-bottom of the Championship and five points adrift of safety ahead of their trip to high-flying neighbours Southampton on Saturday.
