Roy Hodgson has revealed it is 'likely' that Ipswich Town defender Gareth McAuley will join West Bromwich Albion on a free transfer.
McAuley has turned down a new contract at Ipswich after making over 120 appearances during three seasons at Portman Road.
The Northern Ireland international is now set to clinch a move to the Premier League after holding talks over a switch to The Hawthorns.
Hodgson expects to finalise a deal in the coming days and believes the 31-year-old is just the type of player the Baggies need next season.
"It's likely that he will sign," said Hodgson regarding a deal for McAuley.
"Nothing has been concluded yet, but we are in discussions with Gareth McAuley and his agent, so it is likely that something will be finalised during the coming week.
"He's another centre-half, a Northern Ireland captain, an experienced defender who knows British football.
"I think he's a player who will be a valuable addition to our squad and the group next year."
