Nunes commits to Mallorca as Valero nears move

Real Mallorca defender Nunes has signed a new contract to end rumours of a move to West Bromwich Albion. Reports in Spain had suggested West Brom were looking to make a triple swoop on Mallorca for Nunes and team-mates Borja Valero and Oscar Trejo. Valero is close to a move to the Hawthorns, with reports suggesting he will undergo a medical before accepting a four-year contract. Trejo is understood to be happy to stay at Mallorca, although the striker has now been linked with a switch to Newcastle United.

Very happy

Nunes, however, is definitely not going to be leaving the Spanish club after extending his contract until 2011. A release clause of 15million euros (£11.8million) has been inserted in the deal and the Portuguese stopper had no qualms in committing his future to the club. "I'm very happy with the deal," Nunes told the club's official website. "It demonstrates that the club and I have the same interests, which are to stay on the island for a long time."
