West Brom have taken Livingston's Graeme Dorrans on trial and have tabled a renewed bid for Czech goalkeeper Michael Danek.
Dorrans arrived at the Hawthorns on Monday to spend a few days training with the Championship side but is not expected to complete a move to the Baggies during the January transfer window.
The midfielder has scored 10 goals for Scottish First Division side Livingston this season and has reportedly attracted the interest of a number of SPL clubs.
West Brom boss Tony Mowbray admits that he is keen to have a look at the Scottish U21 international and has not ruled out making a move for the player in the future should he impress during his time at the club.
Potential
"He's training with us for a few days, he's come from Livingston and he's a player who has been recommended," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail.
"I haven't seen him but Mark Venus (West Brom assistant manager) has seen him once or twice and his name is always top of the goalscoring charts in the First Division in Scotland.
"He's been playing wide right for Livingston but having spoken to their manager he believes he could develop into a centre forward.
"It might be unlikely (that he will be signed in January) but there's no harm in having a look at him to see the potential that's there.
"I would suggest that if he does well we'll monitor him on a weekly basis and see how he develops."
Speedy conclusion
Meanwhile, Mowbray is also hoping to complete a deal for Viktoria Plzen goalkeeper Danek before the weekend.
The Baggies had a loan request for the player turned down last week, but have now returned with a cash offer and a deal is thought to be close.
"Plzen received an offer from West Bromwich on Friday," Danek's agent Ondrej Chovanec told the Birmingham Mail.
"The contract was then translated and I would hope there could be a decision as early as today (Tuesday) or tomorrow.
"I am confident that this deal will happen before the end of the week because Plzen are going to Turkey to a training camp on Friday and will want a speedy conclusion.
"It is not my place to reveal the offer but it is a big and significant offer which I believe Plzen will want to accept.
"Michal is very excited that things are now moving along."
Kiely's new deal
The renewed interest in Danek comes just a day after first choice keeper Dean Kiely agreed to extend his current deal by a further year, committing himself to the club until 2009.
