West Bromwich Albion are set to make a new bid to sign Czech goalkeeper Michal Danek

Officials travel to Czech Republic for talks

West Bromwich Albion are set to make a new bid to sign Czech goalkeeper Michal Danek. The move comes after Czech side Viktoria Plzen rejected a loan bid for the goalkeeper, with a view to making the switch permanent in a year. Danek impressed boss Tony Mowbray during a recent trial with the Championship pace-setters, and Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace and finance director Mark Jenkins travelled to the Czech Republic on Tuesday for talks. Despite Viktoria rejecting a loan move, Ondrej Chovanec, who is Danek's Czech-based representative, believes a deal will still go ahead.

Keen

He told the Birmingham Mail: "Mr Mowbray and Joe Corrigan (Albion goalkeeping coach) like Michal a lot and are very keen to bring him to West Bromwich. "Plzen have no wish to allow Michal out on loan but I am very confident this is only a minor issue. "The two clubs spoke for more than four hours yesterday and the talks were very good natured. "I drove back to the airport with Mr Peace and Mr Jenkins and we had further discussions and from those talks I believe West Bromwich will come back in with a new offer before the weekend. "Michal is keen to join West Bromwich and knows it will be a great opportunity for him. Ideally all parties would like to have closed the deal yesterday but there is still time to sign him before the end of the month." In a statement, the Czech side said they want a permanent move, rather than a loan deal.
Offered
The statement read: "They (West Brom) offered Viktoria a loan for Michal Danek with a view of a permanent move after a year. "Viktoria presented right from the start that they would not be willing to loan Danek, considering the club's strategy and the fact that two players of the squad have left the club during January transfer window. "Both sides have departed, agreeing that the negotiations will go on, waiting for what West Bromwich Albion owners have to say after learning the news of this meeting. "If Michal Danek does not go to West Bromwich during January, the English side have pointed out that they will continue in scouting Danek and the two sides will resume negotiations in the summer."
