West Brom's Jason Koumas has been named Championship Player of the Year.

The Welsh international has taken the honour after a very good campaign in the midfield of Tony Mowbray's side.

"It's a wonderful honour," declared Koumas.

"It has come as a surprise, but it's great that people inside the game have voted for me and even more pleasing is that Baggies fans value my worth in the team.

"It could have gone the other way, but since I returned from Cardiff in the summer the fans have really got behind me."

In a Wales double, the Young Player of the Year award was taken by Southampton's much coveted full-back Gareth Bale.

The League One gong was taken by Scunthorpe marksman Billy Sharp, while in League Two, Milton Keynes Dons forward Izale McLeod was named.

Each division also had an apprentice award and they went to Chris Gunter (Cardiff), Joe Skarz (Huddersfield) and Joe Thompson (Rochdale).
