West Brom boss Bryan Robson has played down talk that Chris Kirkland's injury problems have resurfaced.

The loan signing from Liverpool was forced to pull out of training on Monday after picking up a slight injury.

The injury had raised fears that Kirkland had suffered a recurrence of the back problem which forced him to miss most of last season and also undergo a back operation.

Kirkland has played in every game for West Brom this season and Robson is confident he will be fit for this weekend's clash with Charlton.

"Chris felt a bit stiff in training on Monday so he came off early as a precaution," said Robson.

"We checked him out on Tuesday morning and it is only a minor thing.

"It is totally unrelated to the back injury he had before and he should be fully fit for the weekend when we entertain Charlton."

Kirkland will not feature in Tuesday's Carling Cup clash with Bradford and it was always unlikely he was going to play in that tie as Robson looks to rotate his squad for the game at The Hawthorns.
