West Brom boss Bryan Robson is being tipped to make an improved offer for Stockport starlet Michael Raynes.

Robson has made some astute summer signings already this summer, but feels his Baggies squad is in need of further additions ahead of the new season which kicks off next weekend.

The Baggies chief has been trailing Raynes for much of the summer and it is believed he will table an improved offer this week, having been rebuffed with an earlier approach.

Hatters boss Chris Turner would love to retain the services of the 17-year-old defender, but is aware an improved offer from The Baggies could turn Raynes' head.

"Michael Raynes is a top drawer player, but my problem is going to be keeping him," said Turner. "We would not stand in any player's way with the chance of playing in The Premiership, but the deal has to be right for the club as well.

"Michael is only 17, but if I was in the stand watching him then I would be thinking 'I've got to sign this player'."
