West Brom striker Geoff Horsfield is relishing his impending battle with Robert Earnshaw for a place in the team.

Baggies boss Gary Megson splashed out a club record £3 million to take Earnshaw to The Hawthorns prior to the close of the transfer window.

The Wales international is likely to provide Horsfield with stiff competition for a spot in Megson's preferred starting XI.

Powerful front man Horsfield is not worried by Earnshaw's arrival in the Midlands and is ready to fight for his first team spot.

"I'm looking forward to the competition with 'Earnie' coming in," said Horsfield. "It's good to strengthen the squad and I'm always ready for a fight."

Horsfield missed West Brom's last game against Everton with a slight hamstring injury but is confident he will be fit for next Saturday's tussle at Liverpool.

He added: "There are definitely no worries about the Liverpool game.

"I thought it might have been a little bit worse than it was but I've had my back looked at and that is also okay.

"You don't want to get injured because if other people start playing well they'll take your place in the team."
