Cardiff City have announced that they have agreed an undisclosed fee with West Bromwich Albion for striker Robert Earnshaw.

The Wales international has now been given permission to discuss personal terms with the Premiership side, as Baggies boss Gary Megson looks to bolster his striking department before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.

Earnshaw's goalscoring pedigree over the past few seasons in the lower divisions and at international level has attracted plenty of interest of clubs in the top flight.

Charlton Athletic and Scottish giants Celtic have been mentioned as suitors of the 23-year-old, but West Brom now look set to swoop for the Ninian Park favourite from the South Wales club.

Should Earnshaw agree personal terms and pass a routine medical at The Hawthorns, he will join fellow summer signing Nwankwo Kanu in the new-look West Bromwich side for the current Premiership campaign.

One player that could be set for a long-term stay with The Bluebirds is Wales defender Daniel Gabbidon.

Cardiff boss Lennie Lawrence is keen to pen Gabbidon to new and lucrative deal at Ninian Park, as he looks to builds a side capable of promotion to The Premiership.

"As far as Danny Gabbidon is concerned, I want him to be the cornerstone of this club and at some stage we will have to say to him - 'Look, here's the most lucrative contract ever to be offered to a Cardiff City player'.

"I will attempt to do something about that when the transfer window closes and there's no point in doing it beforehand."
