The 36-year-old hit-man recently went under the knife to repair a damaged knee and is hoping to resume training in the next few days.
The Robins are keen to add Taylor to their ranks, following his release from West Bromwich Albion back in May.
The former Leeds United, Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers marksman has been linked this summer with moves to Walsall, Port Vale and Conference club Telford United but Gould is hoping he can get Taylor to sign up with the Gloucestershire-based outfit.
"Bob will be going to see a doctor on Wednesday to determine how quickly he can start a training programme," Gould told the club's official website.
"I'm hoping to speak to him again later in the week."
Meanwhile, Gould expects a decision will be made on his trialist quintet this week.
Graham Fyfe, Bertrand Cozic, Peter Beadle, Ben Cleverley, Dean Lindsay will all know if they have done enough to earn a stay with the Third Division side.
"The club has not committed itself yet but we will be looking at the situation closely over the next couple of days," added Gould.
"I think we will have seen a decision on all the trialists by the end of this week."
